Key Responsibilities

As a Remote Co‑Op Engineer, you will be placed on one of several dynamic software engineering groups based on project demand and your personal interests. Across all teams, you will:

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions that improve airline operations, customer experience, or internal tooling.
  • Participate in daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives using Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Write clean, maintainable code in languages such as Java, Python, Go, or JavaScript, adhering to Delta’s coding standards and security best practices.
  • Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and incorporate feedback from peers.
  • Develop unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure high reliability and scalability of services.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production incidents, performing root‑cause analysis, and proposing long‑term fixes.
  • Document technical designs, workflows, and operational run‑books for future reference.
  • Engage with cross‑functional stakeholders—including product managers, data analysts, and UX designers—to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Explore emerging technologies such as cloud native platforms (AWS, Azure), container orchestration (Kubernetes), AI/ML pipelines, and automation tools.

  • Software Performance & Reliability Engineering – focus on system resiliency and latency reduction.
  • OCC/Delta Connections & Enterprise Technology – develop APIs and integration layers for crew management and scheduling.
  • Omnichannel Technology – enhance reservation platforms, mobile apps, and digital cabin experiences.
  • AI & Automation – build intelligent bots and predictive models for customer support and operational efficiency.
  • Global Sales, DLV & Engineering Services – support sales enablement tools and partner integrations.
  • Airport Customer Service & Cargo Operations – improve baggage handling systems and cargo tracking applications.
  • TechOps IT, DMS & DFP – maintain internal developer tools, data management services, and financial platforms.
  • Corporate Technology – contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives such as security hardening and compliance automation.

Essential Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)

  • Enrolled in a full‑time undergraduate program with at least two years completed and a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Business Management, or a closely related field.
  • Availability to work full‑time (40 hours/week) for two consecutive 16‑week semesters (Spring 2024 and Fall 2024) with a flexible hybrid schedule (remote + optional onsite days).
  • Strong analytical mindset, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a proactive work ethic.
  • Passion for solving complex problems, willingness to invest time and effort to overcome obstacles, and a solid understanding of software development lifecycle concepts.
  • Basic familiarity with cloud concepts, operating system fundamentals, and/or hardware maintenance.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to thrive in a corporate‑style environment while working remotely.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States (U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work authorization) and age 18 or older.
  • Interest in pursuing a full‑time career with Delta Air Lines upon successful completion of the co‑op.
