About the Opportunity

The Student Researcher Program is designed to foster academic collaborations through research at Google. As a Student Researcher, you'll have the chance to work directly with Google's research scientists and engineers on projects that are both challenging and rewarding. This program is tailored for students who are passionate about exploring new ideas and are currently enrolled in a PhD program related to software engineering, linguistics, statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, operations research, economics, or physical sciences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in research to develop solutions for real-world, large-scale problems, leveraging the latest advancements in software engineering and related fields.
  • Collaborate with Google researchers and engineers to design, implement, and evaluate research projects.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative technologies that can impact Google products and services.
  • Engage in exploratory research projects that may not have a predefined outcome, fostering creativity and innovation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in software engineering, linguistics, statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, operations research, economics, or physical sciences.
  • Experience in at least one area of software engineering, such as natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, algorithmic foundations of optimization, quantum data science, data science, or programming.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently attending a US-based institution for your PhD program.
  • Commitment to return to your full-time degree program after completing the temporary research position.
  • Experience as a researcher, including internships, full-time positions, or lab experience.
  • History of contributing to research communities or initiatives, including publishing papers in conferences or journals.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Go, or Python.
