The Detection Engineer Role: Stop Threats in Their Tracks

Are you tired of being overwhelmed by endless security alerts? As a Detection Engineer with CyberCX, you'll have the power to detect, stop, and modify threats, rather than just watching them pass by. You'll work closely with skilled threat intelligence, triage, and discovery teams to enact real actions and make a tangible impact on cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities: Detection and Mitigation

  • Develop and refine regular expressions to detect complex threats and anomalies.
  • Create YARA rules to hunt for and identify malware, staying one step ahead of cyber adversaries.
  • Utilize our proprietary technology to eliminate or alter threats, minimizing risk and protecting our clients.
  • Test and improve signature logic to ensure accurate detections and reduce false positives.
  • Collaborate with peers to review and refine signatures, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Qualifications and Skills: The Ideal Candidate

To succeed as a Detection Engineer with CyberCX, you'll need:

  • A strong foundation in operating systems and network protocols.
  • Experience with writing Regular Expressions and a keen understanding of their applications.
  • An advanced understanding of network detection technologies, including IPS, IDS, and NGFW.
  • Skilled troubleshooting technical issues and resolving complex problems.
  • Experience in network traffic analysis and at least one of the following domains:
    • Network Security
    • Incident Response
    • Red Team/Blue Team
    • Signature development
    • Malware Analysis
    • Application Security

Preferred Qualifications: Adding an Extra Layer of Expertise

While not mandatory, the following qualifications and experience will make you an even more competitive candidate:

  • Australian government security clearances (although not required, these are desirable).
  • A background in cybersecurity, with a focus on threat detection and mitigation.
